Black locust is a pale golden or greenish yellow to a medium warm russet brown in color, hard and heavy in texture. It is very resistant to rot or decay and is frequently used for fence-posts, flag poles, and indoor and outdoor furniture. One of its most unusual characteristics is that it will emit a strong yellow-green glow when exposed to black light. Some other woods also fluoresce, but few this strongly or in this color.
